BOO! I’m Alex, the founder of Spooky Traveler. I love all things old and spooky.
I started this website for two reasons: to visit historic, haunted sites and to tell the stories about the people who made the sites so historic (and haunted).
I’ve always loved the “beyond.” As a kid I would sneak around to watch ghost movies and read ghost stories. Then I experienced my first ghost…it moved my raggedy Ann doll.
After that experience my interest in the history and paranormal activity of historic sights skyrocketed. I started traveling to haunted sites and taking ghost tours. I spent a summer living on Jekyll Island, right nearby the Jekyll Island Hotel that is insanely haunted, and moved to Chicago where ghosts join you at the bar. Then I spent a lot of time in Europe walking old cemeteries, haunted palaces, and historic sites.
One fall day in the height of the COVID pandemic, I was driving through small town Minnesota and stopped at a small cemetery, probably 50 feet wide. I realized that people were buried there. People with stories, lives, descendants…. people who left their mark on the world in some way, big or small, and I realized that their stories needed to be told.
Sure, I’ll cover the top haunted sites and places where the really scary stuff happened. But I hope that I can share some insight into normal people who left their small mark too.
The stories I share are true. If you ever see a fact or story that is wrong, or you have a story or idea, email me at meetspookytraveler(@)gmail.com. I do my best to fact check, but the locals always know best!
Happy Spooking,
Alex
